Building Rafts

Our school age crew were exploring water transportation in the play room.
After reading a book on different modes of transportation, the gang began talking about the ocean and floating devices.
An idea was expressed and out came the paper towel rolls, yarn, glue, paints, etc. They began to make rafts and over several days it evolved into beautiful and creative rafts that were floating in the ocean.
Big plastic bowls were provided by staff for the children to allow their rafts to float away.
This was an engaging project and allowed children to experience working as a team, expressing ideas and not getting upset when their idea was not used as the team decided to do something else. It was great to see everybody participating and working together.
